Once upon a time there was a fair maden......
Just kidding, this isn't that kind of blog! lol I want the first post to be about me though, who I am and and where Ringletts & Rows came from.
I'm a mother of 2 gorgeous multicultural little girls "A" who is 6 & "C" who is 3. I love naturally curly hair and have always wanted it, I can remember getting mad at my mom when I was little because I didn't have it, now I get to play with curly hair whenever I want!
When "A" was born her hair was straight, it was like this until about 3 months old, it then became wispy macaroni curls. I thought, no problem I can work with this. At 6 months her hair changed again, this time to longer ringletts, I thought, OK great its getting longer. Then at 1 year her hair texture changed completely, now it wasn't just curls it was also much more coarse. I didn't know what I was going to do with it and often just let it "free" in a fro (I'll share photos later) I knew I had to do something, I couldn't allow my child to walk around with out knowing how to do her hair. Every time we left the house I felt incredibly insecure because it was un-moisturized and every different direction. So, I taught myself how to braid by watching you-tube videos and other multicultural blogs.... Beads, Braids, beyond being one of my absolute favorites. Braiding came pretty naturally for me. Being the daughter of a cosmetologist I was never shy with hair. I always loved learning new styles, I was always cutting, coloring and just all around changing my hair when I was younger. "A" having moisturized hair was the most important thing to me, I have tried MANY different hair products, different advice and would continue on to the next product if that particular one didn't work. (I'll discuss my favorite products later) As of today "A" has a combination of 4a 4b and 4c. You can check out the photo below for texture types.
Three years later I was getting the hang of braiding. I still made mistakes and crazy hair styles, poor "A" will chastise me later in life I'm sure lol. At this time, "C" was born and she, like "A", was born with a head full of straight hair. I didn't think much of it, I figured by the time she was 1 year old it would be completely different anyways... Boy I was wrong. It pretty much stayed the same, but just grew and became longer with more loose ringletts. The texture is just now starting to get more coarse as she is 3 years old. She currently has a combination of 2c and 3a.
So as of today, I have been braiding for 5 years and love
learning new tricks and styles daily. I'd love to look back on this day
as a master at this craft.
